All Saints' Inaugural Organ Intern Arrives
Welcome Noah Smith to All Saints'!
[Update as of 6/3/22]
It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Noah Smith, the organ intern for Summer 2021, a position which is funded though a Sloggett grant. Noah is studying as a dual Piano and Organ major at OU (The University of Oklahoma). All Saints’ has partnered with OU’s organ department to provide this opportunity for a young organist to experience life on Kauai, to participate with the worship team at the church, and particularly to practice on and play the new Wilcox/Sloggett ‘Ohana organ. Noah has been here for less than a week and I think it safe to say he’s very happy he’s here, and I know he is looking forward to working with Kahu and Hank to further the music ministry at the church.
One of the most exciting parts of this program for All Saints’ members is that Noah will be playing organ for services while he is here. This includes Hank’s vacation time as well, so we can expect a some fine music during Hank’s absence. Additionally, Noah will be playing a solo recital near the end of June (watch the Epistle for further details).
The other big event of the summer is a collaborative recital scheduled for 6pm, July 13. Noah and Hank will be joined by Adam Pajan (Noah’s teacher, and of course you know him from the opening organ concert) and others for a truly special night of music. When that recital is done, All Saints’ will have had 7 major recitals on the new Rosales organ since March of 2021. How wonderful that Noah will be a part of the early history of our exceptional instrument.
I would like to encourage members of the congregation to engage Noah and make him part of the ‘ohana. Invite him for lunch or dinner, go on a hike with him, invite him to go along with you for an outing or barbecue at the beach. Noah doesn’t have a car, so he would certainly appreciate seeing more of Kauai.
Welcome Noah, we are glad you are here.
