ABOUT THE PROJECT
Headed by the All Saints' Environmental Ministry, the church began a new roof and solar panel project on July 6, 2021.
The project replaces the old and deteriorating Sloggett Center roof which houses both the church office and the preschool. The old roof will be crushed into gravel and reused to fill campus pot holes created by the last few thunder storms.
Aside from necessary roof repairs, the solar panels will provide much of the campus' electrical needs. The panels are one way our church strives to create a more environmentally sustainable future as good stewards of God's creation.
Many of our church 'ohana have lead the planning, initial deposits, and permit permissions to get us through over 50% of our estimated project costs.
We humbly ask you, our church family and friends, for your kōkua in helping us complete the final construction phase of this project.
Mahalo!

Progress Report from All Saints Vestry
The preschool roofing and painting project is now finished. The new roof and paint give the Sloggett Center a fresh updated look. The kids will have a brand new preschool when classes begin in August.
The solar panel project is in the KIUC permitting stage. Most likely, we will wait for the fall break in the school calendar (October) to do that installation.
Our fundraising effort continue to ensure we have the capital to cover any unexpected expenses and to maintain our investment in our new roof and solar system. Continued support raised our total by $1,100 last week. Thank you to everyone who continues to give to this project.
The Vestry and the Environmental Ministry are grateful to all the donors who have contributed to make this project possible. A special thanks to Kathy Northcutt for writing the NPT grant application that brought in $100,000 toward our goal. We are thankful that the All Saints’ `Ohana recognized the value of this project and donated so generously.
Mahalo nui loa to you all!

Progress Report from All Saints Vestry
The preschool roofing and painting project is finally reaching a conclusion. All of the Spanish tiles have been removed and sent to PCCC for recycling. The protective underlayment has been placed over the entire roof and now they are installing the asphalt shingles. The roofing should be completed this week and painting will be finished by early next week. Note some of the before/after pictures of the painted facia boards and stucco walls. The new colors will be dark burgundy facia boards and light tan stucco walls. The kids will have a brand new preschool when classes begins in August.

Progress Report from All Saints Staff
Through amazing effort of our church 'ohana, we managed to reach our initial $310,000 goal! With the funds collected to date, we have the means of fully funding our project. However, many unexpected expenses may arise, such as the additional $30,000 inflation to lumber costs. To be extra diligent in our efforts, we kindly ask our congregation to continue to offer donations in case we meet another set back.
Ohana will be flying down their best crew from 'Oahu to begin roof repairs on July 5, 2021. They estimate the job will take 5 days to complete, after which Nathan Wood is preparing to start their solar installation.
Mahalo to everyone for your tremendous support.

Progress Report from Junior Warden Ron Morinishi
The original estimate for $124k was revised by Ohana Contracting to reflect the sudden rise in wood material costs. The first estimate of $161K is for the original approach of installing new OSB (Oriented Strand Board) over the battens (1"x2" wood strips) across the entire roof. This includes a $34k increase for OSB which is a 250% price inflation.
Vestry voted to continue the repairs and solar installation with the inflated price, believing the Lord will help us through this unexpected expense.

Excerpt from our All Saints E-pistle Newsletter 5/21/21:
All Saints’ Church and Preschool is beginning an exciting new project that will improve our current physical plant and provide for All Saints’ future in an environmentally sustainable way. The Sloggett Center will be getting a long needed new roof and a solar panel system will be installed to meet a good deal of our church’s electrical needs. The entire solar panel system has been funded by a private donation from a church `Ohana family. The fundraising effort for the new roof is off to a good start.
A gift of stock was made to All Saints’ by the private donor for the solar project, the sale of which netted $161,758. The solar panel project, to be executed by Nathan Wood’s Renewable Energy Technologies, will cost $150.591 leaving a balance of $11,167 to use toward the cost of the roof replacement.
Ohana Construction will be replacing the current tile roof on the Sloggett Center with an asphalt shingle roof at a cost of $123,657. This project will include reroofing the entire Sloggett Center, prepping and painting the high part of the exterior wall of Sloggett, and fascia and gutter repair and replacement. The roofing tiles will be removed and crushed for use on the church campus where gravel type fill is needed thereby keeping the construction rubble from Kaua`i’s landfill.
By providing solar energy for All Saints’, this project fulfills the donor’s wish to help All Saints’ become a more conscientious steward of God’s creation. The reuse of the roofing tile is another way All Saints’ is able to be environmentally responsible.
Now is the time for everyone to step up and make a contribution toward completing the funding for the roofing project. There will be a donation link on the All Saints’ website for the roofing project. Follow the soon-to-be debuted funding goal thermometer to see how our fundraising efforts are going.
Many thanks to our illustrious Junior Warden, Ron Morinishi, head of the Buildings and Grounds Ministry. Ron contacted and scheduled many solar and roofing contractors for estimates, waded through mounds of diocesan paperwork to get our Sloggett Center Solar and Roofing Project approved, kept the Vestry updated with all the information gleaned from his efforts, and was the point man to answer questions from all these different groups. Mahalo nui loa to Ron for his tireless efforts to get these projects off the ground.
